May 2008In May 2008 Norman Watts, Gordon Laurens and I attempted Denali (Mt. McKinley), at 20,320' the highest peak in North America. We intended to climb the mountain by a moderately technical route known as the West Rib, and we called ourselves Team WRAVAGED (West Rib Ascent, Veteran Alpinists' Group Expedition to Denali). Things didn't work out quite as planned — our efforts were hampered by Denali's unpredictable weather, and Norm found he wasn't acclimatizing properly — but I did manage to summit by the normal West Buttress route.
